Introduction

Getting a period is one of nature’s ways of guiding us to understand ourselves better and learn how to take care of ourselves so that we can sustain life, without getting burnt out.

All too often, I hear about women being burnt out, pushing themselves to keep up with all of the demands life throws at them… and there are so many!

Although we live in a very liberal age, unlike in previous generations, women in the western world have many freedoms, however sometimes these freedoms come at a cost to our wellbeing. We still live in a world that is unequal, a world that expects us to push ourselves through the Yang (male energy) and ignore the Yin (female energy). Women are often expected to carry the majority of the load… managing children and family, often running a household as well as working or running a business and somehow making time for their social life and their needs. When we continue to push ourselves through the Yang and ignore the Yin, we become depleted, tired and can make ourselves ill.  How well we look after ourselves is reflected to us each month in our Monthly Menstrual Period. This fact is, this pain and discomfort can improve if we listen to our bodies and make time for our period. Female bodies have this natural inbuilt system to rest, replenish and renew. When you make time for your period and acknowledge where you are in your cycle, you allow the Yin (feminine energy) to exist which then allows your body to repair and rest so that you can continue to take on the world! It’s all about balance.

Let’s teach our young ones to use their natural inbuilt wisdom to care for themselves and their bodies. When we learn to have a positive relationship with our period, we will also have a positive relationship with our body and its needs.
